JetBlue has become the last of the six largest U.S. airlines to do away with change fees long term. The move will apply to all JetBlue fares except its basic economy tickets, called Blue Basic.

Like other airlines, JetBlue hasn’t imposed change fees since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The carrier said Tuesday that Blue Extra ticket holders will never pay a change fee going forward. Those booking its Blue, Blue Plus and Mint fares will also not be asked to pay change fees, with the exception of a $75 fee for changes made on the day of travel. That goes into effect on April 1.

Blue Basic tickets holders, however, will be subject to $100 change fees on most routes beginning April 1. Change fees in the basic economy will be $200 on South American routes.

American, Delta, United and Alaska all announced in the late summer that they would do away with change fees long term, also with the exception of basic economy tickets. Southwest has never charged change fees.

Also on Tuesday, JetBlue announced that beginning July 20 it will prohibit carry-ons that don’t fit below the seat for Blue Basic passengers. The rule will apply to all Blue Basic tickets booked on or after Feb. 25.

When that change takes effect, the carrier will offer a $25 travel credit to any of its other customers if bin space is not available.
