The MIA Mover, an elevated train opening Sept. 9 at Miami Airport, will transport passengers between the airport and the rental-car center.
The four-level rental-car facility opened in July 2010 as the first phase of the Miami Intermodal Center.
The MIA Mover, which can carry 3,000 passengers per hour, will replace shuttle-bus service between the airport and the rental-car center.
Travelers renting a car will take moving walkways on the terminal’s third level to the MIA Mover’s airport station and board one of eight train cars to the rental car facility.
The people mover also will connect travelers to Miami-Dade County’s Metrorail system when the airport link is completed next April.
Still to come is the Miami Central Station, the second phase of the Miami Intermodal Center scheduled to open in 2013. This will serve as Miami’s first ground transportation hub, offering connections to the Metrobus system; Tri-Rail, a rail system covering Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties; and taxis and other private transportation services.
