Salt Lake City Airport, in partnership with hub carrier Delta, has completed the second phase of a $5.2 billion airport redevelopment.
Phase 2 officially ended on Tuesday with the opening of 13 additional gates leased by Delta in the airport's Concourse A-east. A-east also has 16 operating shops and restaurants.
"These new gates and amenities will further elevate the guest experience at the Salt Lake City International Airport for Salt Lakers and visitors from all over the world," mayor Erin Mendenhall proclaimed at a ribbon cutting event on Tuesday.
In total, the finalized Concourse A has 47 gates, all controlled by Delta. The nine other gates in Concourse A-east opened over the spring and summer. The 25 gates the comprise Salt Lake's Concourse A-west opened in 2020, along with a new airport terminal and parking garage.
The western portion of the airport's other concourse, Concourse B, also opened in fall 2020, with 21 gates used by Alaska, American, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest and United.
Still left to do is the completion of 26 more gates, mostly in Concourse B-east, as well as a new Concourse B plaza and a tunnel connecting the two concourses. Five of those gates, as well as the plaza, tunnel, and new shops and restaurants, are slated for a fall 2024 opening.
The overall project timeline extends through 2027. Once finished, the redeveloped Salt Lake City airport will have 94 gates, including 66 leased by Delta.
