Aloft debuts voice-activated room controls

|

Starwood Hotels & Resorts' Aloft Hotels brand is debuting a feature this week that allows guests to do things like adjust the hotel-room temperature and check the weather via voice commands.

Aloft said Wednesday that in-room Apple iPads will allow guests to say "Hey Siri" and then make their voice-activated commands. The feature, which is launched via an app on the iPad, will debut at the Aloft Boston Seaport and the Aloft Santa Clara in the San Francisco Bay Area. Starwood didn't say if or when the amenity would be expanded to other properties.

The feature is part of what Starwood calls "Project Jetson," whose programs include Emoji-only room-service menus and a robotic butler (a.k.a. "Botlr"). The latter feature debuted in 2014 and is available at the Aloft Cupertino and the Aloft Silicon Valley, both in Central California.
