Cancun development to have Waldorf Astoria and Hilton hotels

|

Waldorf Astoria and Hilton hotels will be built on 100 acres of Cancun beachfront. A 2021 opening is scheduled.

The Waldorf Astoria Cancun will have 150 rooms, all of which will face either the Caribbean or mangroves.

The spa will use native ingredients and incorporate Mexican healing traditions in treatments.

In addition to two elegant restaurants, the Waldorf Astoria will give guests the opportunity to eat locally sourced Yucatecan cuisine at dining experiences throughout the property.

The 600-room Hilton will be an all-inclusive resort. Hilton says guests will have the opportunity to experience "curated adventures in local art, gastronomy and culture."

Hilton said design firms SB Architects, EDSA and HBA will "create a fluid transition between indoor and outdoor spaces" throughout both hotels.

Inspired by the surrounding area's natural elements, the design at both properties will incorporate variations of modern lines, repetitive patterns and undulating forms that mimic the sea. Both properties will also feature classic Mexican colors and materials, as well as modern design elements and technology.

The neighboring hotels will be located near the municipality of Benito Juarez, about a 10-minute drive from Cancun International Airport.
