The Jamaica-based Couples Resorts chain, with four all-inclusive properties in Ocho Rios (Tower Isle and Sans Souci) and Negril (Swept Away and Negril), plans to acquire the 280-room Almond Casuarina Beach in Barbados.
When finalized, the acquisition will spell the end of the Almond resort brand in the Caribbean, which until 2010 included three properties in Barbados and two in St. Lucia.
The Barbados venture, the first for Couples outside of its home market, is expected to conclude by the end of the month, according to CEO Glenn Lawrence.
Normal operations at Almond Casuarina will continue through May, and all forward bookings will be honored through May 31, Lawrence said.
The property will be rebranded as a Couples resort after May 31.
Facilities include three restaurants, five bars, three pools, a kids’ club and spa. The resort is on Dover Beach in southeastern Barbados, five miles from the airport and within walking distance of the St. Lawrence Gap, known for its casual restaurants and nightly entertainment.
