Kempinski to manage its first hotel in Mexico

The Ritz-Carlton Cancun will soon be no more, with Kempinski Hotels taking over the luxury property at the start of September.

Kempinski will initially operate the 363-room hotel as the Grand Hotel Cancun. Once enhancements are completed at the end of the year, the hotel will be renamed the Kempinski Hotel Cancun.

The hotel will remain open throughout the transition.

Located within the Cancun Hotel Zone, the beachfront hotel features eight dining venues, a club lounge, two swimming pools, an oceanfront whirlpool, a spa, a fitness center, a tennis club and a kids club.

Kempinski Group CEO Bernold Schroeder called the Cancun hotel "an outstanding opportunity" to extend Kempinski's footprint in the Americas.

The company has four hotels in the Americas: three in Cuba and one in Dominica.
