Le Meridien Mexico City sustained extensive damage from the 7.1-magnitude earthquake that struck on Tuesday, and the hotel is closed until further notice.

A Marriott International spokeswoman said all other hotels in the Mexico City area are open.

Hilton's seven Mexico City hotels and Hyatt's two remain open.

The Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) says that Mexico City remains open for business. The Puebla and Mexico City airports shut down for a few hours on Tuesday afternoon before resuming operations.

While damage has been reported in parts of Puebla, Morelos and Mexico City, tourist attractions in those destinations remain open and functioning, MTB said. "There is no reason for visitors to cancel travel plans to Mexico," the organization said.

MTB is working to develop a link with additional earthquake-related information on its Visit Mexico website.

The earthquake, which was centered about 76 miles southeast of Mexico City, killed more than 200 people.
