Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has been tapped to manage a new luxury resort in Puerto Rico.

Slated to open in 2028, the property will be located along the island's southwestern coast, opening as part of a larger, $2 billion hospitality and residential development known as Esencia.

The complex, which is being developed by Reuben Brothers and Three Rules Capital, will also be home to a Rosewood Hotels & Resorts-flagged property.

The Mandarin Oriental Esencia Puerto Rico will comprise 106 rooms, including suites with plunge pools and villa accommodations with private pools.

The resort will also be home to five dining venues, a beach club, a Mandarin Oriental spa with outdoor lap pool and fitness center, an 18-hole golf course, a children's club and an outdoor adventure center.

Additionally, the project will include 83 residential villas spread across beach, hillside and cliff locations as well as approximately 200 private residences within several six-story buildings.

The Mandarin Oriental Esencia Puerto Rico will be the luxury brand's third outpost in the Caribbean, joining the Mandarin Oriental Canouan in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the soon-to-open Mandarin Oriental Grand Cayman.
