Marriott International has struck a deal with Mexico's Hoteles City Express to acquire the City Express brand portfolio for $100 million.

In acquiring City Express, Marriott said it is making a foray into the "affordable midscale segment."

The brand portfolio includes the City Express, City Express Plus, City Express Suites, City Express Junior and City Centro flags. Most of the 152 hotels are in Mexico, and a few are in Costa Rica, Colombia and Chile.

The deal is expected to close by first half of 2023, after which point Marriott will update the City Express brand name with the addition of "by Marriott."

City Express will be Marriott's 31st brand.
