Melia Hotels International will add eight properties to its Cuba inventory, as the Spain-based resort operator looks to broaden its exposure in the island nation.

Melia, which has operated in Cuba since 1990, will add three hotels in Cienfuegos, including the reflagging of the 173-room Hotel Jagua under its Innside urban brand and taking over management of both the 56-room San Carlos Hotel and 49-room Union Hotel.

The company will also reflag Trinidad's 279-room Ancon Hotel under its Sol House brand, and will operate a new 102-room hotel that will be a Melia-badged property.

Finally, in Camaguey, the 142-room Hotel Camaguey will be reflagged as an Innside property after a renovation, while Melia will manage two other hotels totaling 130 rooms.

Melia, which currently has 27 hotels in Cuba and more than 350 worldwide, will take over the new properties by Nov. 1.
