Rosewood has been selected to operate a new ultraluxury
resort in Antigua, on acreage that the Half Moon Bay Resort once occupied.
The Rosewood Half Moon Bay Antigua is scheduled to open in
2021.
The Half Moon Bay Resort was wrecked by Hurricane Luis in
1995, and the abandoned remains have been there ever since. The Antigua
government sold the land to developer Replay Resorts in January 2016.
Subsequently, the developer acquired additional land from the estate of the
late Rachel "Bunny" Mellon, an heiress, horticulturalist and
confidante of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The Mellon acreage includes a
dramatic bluff overlooking the Caribbean.
The resort will have 47 pavilion-style suites. Each accommodation
will feature an infinity plunge pool, hammock, open-air bath and shower and a
live orchid wall in each bathroom.
Rosewood says the resort's design will reflect the lush
surroundings, the aesthetic "borrowing from historic Caribbean and architectural
pioneers to offer a classic, timeless feel coupled with modern amenities and
services."
The resort will also feature a pool grill and beach bar, two
pools (one for adults only), a Sense spa and an organic farm that will supply
produce to the resort's restaurants.
Plans call for the resort's signature lounge to be
constructed on a cliff overlooking the sea. The developer touts that the entire
resort will be "one of the most exciting destinations to dine and drink in
the Caribbean."
In addition to the 47 suites, the 132-acre resort will have
a residential component: 40 to 50 branded villas and 13 estate homes.
Located adjacent to a 27-acre national park, the Rosewood
Half Moon Bay Antigua will offer a selection of outdoor activities and
excursions, including biking and walking trails.
