Kerzner International has added the Shamwari Private Game Reserve, a wildlife sanctuary in South Africa's Eastern Cape, to its Rare Finds portfolio.

The property began operating under Kerzner management on April 1.

Spanning some 61,000 acres, Shamwari began welcoming guests in 1992, and is currently home to more than 5,000 animals and 275 bird species.

The reserve has 62 accommodations across six lodges and an Explorer Camp with tents.

According to Kerzner, the property offers an "immersive, nature-led multigenerational adventure," with children ages 3 and up permitted on guided game drives.

Each of the six lodges features its own spa or treatment rooms, and dining spans indoor and outdoor settings across the reserve. The property also has a Kids' Adventure Centre and event spaces.

Conservation is a key pillar of the property, which is home to a Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, Born Free Big Cat Sanctuaries, a Rhino Haven Project and a Vulture Breeding Programme.

Kerzner has also taken over management of Shamwari Air, the reserve's private aviation service that operates charter flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Joe Cloete, who has spent 34 years with Shamwari, will continue leading the property as CEO.

Shamwari joins the Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and The Meydan Hotel, both in Dubai, within the Rare Finds portfolio.

Kerzner launched the Rare Finds brand in 2022, billing it as "a diverse collection of resorts."

Kerzner's other hospitality brands are Atlantis, One&Only and the wellness concept SIRO
