A two-hotel resort in Oceanside, Calif., about 40 miles
north of San Diego, will be built around the Graves House, the Queen Anne
Victorian home featured in the 1986 film "Top Gun."
In fact, the 1887-built house will be part of the resort. It
will be restored to serve as a dining outlet.
The adjacent hotels will be operated as Joie de Vivre Hotels
and Destination Hotels properties. Both brands are owned by Two Roads
Hospitality. A 2020 opening is scheduled.
A 160-room hotel will be part of the Joie de Vivre portfolio.
It will have an 11,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor pool and bar as well as 3,000
square feet of street-front retail space.
The 226-room Destination Hotels property will have a
9,000-square-foot pool deck and an indoor-outdoor lounge as well as a library
and spa.
The 2.75-acre site is located next to the Oceanside Amtrak
station, allowing guests direct rail service between Los Angeles and San Diego.
Oceanside, located near the Camp Pendleton Marine Corp.
base, was one of a group of 14 areas last year to be designated by the state as
the first California Cultural Districts because of its theaters, museums and
galleries.
