Vail's Mountain News buys SkiReport.com; Wyoming's oldest ski resort for sale

Vail Resorts' Mountain News Corp., which publishes website OnTheSnow.com, acquired www.SkiReport.com in a move that combines the two most popular snow sport websites in North America.

Vail Resorts, which didn't disclose the acquisition price, said in a statement Wednesday that the purchase will boost On the Snow's website audience to more than 12.6 million annual unique viewers from 9.6 million. The purchase also broadens On the Snow's mobile application user base more than tenfold, to 945,000.

Meanwhile, the owners of Wyoming's oldest ski resort, Snow King, has put the 465-acre Jackson, Wyo., property up for sale. Snow King also includes a 204-room hotel, a condominium complex and development rights for future properties, owner Snow King Holdings said in a statement Thursday. Snow King Holdings didn't disclose a list price.

Snow King opened in 1939 with a single rope tow, when all-day ski passes cost $2.95; its first chairlift was installed seven years later. The Jackson Hole ski resort, in Teton Village about 15 miles away, opened in 1965.
