The National Park Service has announced the closure of the Wawona Hotel in Yosemite National Park, effective Dec. 2.

The government agency said the closure is necessary to complete a "comprehensive condition assessment on the hotel complex." The decision comes after a recent roof-replacement project on the main hotel building revealed the need for a more thorough investigation.

All guest bookings from Dec. 2 onward have been canceled and refunded. The National Park Service has not provided an estimated reopening date.

Located approximately 27 miles from Yosemite Valley, the Wawona Hotel was originally built in 1856. The property has 104 rooms, split between 50 standard rooms with private bathrooms and 54 with shared bathrooms. The hotel also features a dining space, nine-hole golf course, swimming pool and riding stable.
