Wyndham Worldwide Corp. has acquired the Microtel Inns & Suites and Hawthorn Suites hotel brands from Global Hyatt Corp.

The acquisition of the 91-hotel Hawthorn brand marks Wyndham’s entry into the extended-stay market, which the company is “very, very excited about,” said Steven Rudnitsky, Wyndham Hotel Group's chairman and CEO.

Microtel Inns & Suites is a chain of 292 new-construction economy hotels, with 38 more under construction. It has been ranked No. 1 in guest satisfaction in its segment by J.D. Power and Associates for the last six years.

“We are very pleased to acquire these two widely respected hotel brands, which come with strong U.S. portfolios and a growing international presence,” said Rudnitsky.

The two chains have a total of more than 29,000 rooms.

The transaction is expected to completed in the next 60 days.
