American Airlines Vacations' Race for Miles competition
between two dozen travel agents was hosted by AMResorts in Mexico's Riviera
Maya last week, as the carrier gave away more than 1 million miles to
top-performing agencies.
The "Breathless" team, which included Dawn Gray of
Jamestown, North Carolina-based 4 Moons Travel; April Natzinger of Hamburg,
Pennsylvania's Maven Travel; Amanda Weir of Burleson, Texas-based First Travel
of Burleson; and Russell Vara Jr. of Huntersville, North Carolina's Maestro
Travel Inc., won the five-team competition, which pitted groups named after AMResorts'
all-inclusive brands.
The competition included a scavenger hunt, a
sushi-making competition and cocktail-mixing contest.
The Breathless team split the top prize of 500,000 miles
from American, while the second-place and third-place teams split 300,000 miles
and 200,000 miles respectively.
The event, which was hosted by AMResorts' Now Jade Riviera
Cancun, included site tours of five other all-inclusive AMResorts properties in
the Riviera Maya, including Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya;
Breathless Riviera Cancun; Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun; Dreams Tulum;
and Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya.
The 526-room Breathless property opened in May, while the
434-room Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya celebrated its one-year anniversary Nov.

The participating
agents represented agencies that were the top sellers of AMResorts for the
first seven months of the year.
The competition started as a Las Vegas scavenger hunt for
America West Vacations before US Airways' acquisition of America West in 2005.
American Airlines acquired US Airways in 2013.
