WASHINGTON -- Dallas-based Travel Technologies Group was selected
by the Transportation Department as the booking engine for the
DOT's proposed self-booking Internet site for federal government
travelers, dubbed FedTrip.
Travel Technologies Group said it will use its on-line booking
system, ResAssist, to drive the site and will charge the traveler a
"very competitive" $4 booking fee.
Booking fees will be collected and forwarded to Travel
Technologies by the yet-to-be-determined pool of travel agencies
that participate in the site as fulfillment centers or full-service
firms. Travel agencies will charge, collect and keep their own
transaction fees.
The DOT said it expects FedTrip during its first year to capture
2% of the air bookings in the civilian government, which run to at
least $1.2 billion a year. Travel Technologies has access to all
four major CRSs, which should provide full compatibility for travel
agencies that hope to participate.
Travel Technologies is a sister company to Atlanta-based
WorldTravel Partners/BTI Americas, which is the travel agency for
the DOT.
