Every winter we remind ourselves to make friends with someone who has a summer share in the Hamptons on Long Island, NY and every winter we forget. That’s why we’re especially glad to hear there’s a new hotel opening on Sag Harbor on June 4 where we can work on our tan, imbibe a few cocktails at a cool bar and hang poolside in an all-around classy environment.
Faraway Sag Harbor is opening on the former Baron’s Cover property with 67 rooms, a pool, terrace, gym and Zagara – an on-site Amalfi-inspired restaurant. There’s already a Faraway Nantucket and a Faraway Martha’s Vineyard (If you know, you know: Both hotels have great reviews for their charming décor, fire pits and attentive service).

Zagara is a serious dining venue; it’s being headed up by Executive Chef and Culinary Director Jarad McCarroll. He most recently oversaw the culinary program at Montauk Yacht Club and before that? Well, he gets credit for relaunching the dining experience at the five-star Relais & Châteaux property Hotel Le Toiny in St. Barths, where he was named Gault & Millau Chef of the Year for St. Barthélemy. Sweet.
Faraway Sag Harbor is located a short walk away from Havens Beach and Main Street; it marks Boston-based hospitality investment company Blue Flag Capital’s second property in the Hamptons, following May’s opening of Hotel Corduroy in Montauk. Hotel Corduroy is located in the former Sunset Montauk property. Of note is “The Lawn,” where guests can hang out while watching the sunset. (Yes, there are fire pits.) Amenities, such as beach gear and bicycles, make for a true coastal vibe.
Getting There: Most guests fly into Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) and continue by car or private transfer. East Hampton Airport (HTO) primarily serves private and charter aircraft. Then there are always New York's international airports, JFK, LaGuardia and Newark which will require longer transfers.
