The newly renovated Outrigger Waikiki Paradise Hotel was unveiled last fall as Outrigger's second craft hotel on Oahu. The 19-story property a short walk from the beach was formerly known as the Ohana Waikiki East. On a recent visit, I found the hotel to be completely refreshed, so much so, that I barely recognized its former self.

The updated lobby is bright, airy and open with a beautiful floral mural and decorative pieces by acclaimed local artists. The 443 guestrooms and suites are also renovated with the same color palette of tans, pinks and blues.

Adjacent to the International Market Place, the hotel is built on land once part of Princess Kaiulani's estate called Ainahau known for its stream and gardens. "The hotel draws its name and inspiration from the estate's former title, 'Paradise Garden,'" Outrigger said in a news release. "The hotel is now a refreshing escape for today's travelers, reflecting both the heritage and spirit of the land."

After taking a separate express elevator to the 17th floor, I opened the door to my one-bedroom suite. The living room has a dining table and separate kitchenette, with a refrigerator, sink, microwave and coffeemaker. There's also a large pull-out couch and a big flat-screen TV. The room was roomy and bright, sunlight streaming through the windows, beckoning me outside where I found a wraparound lanai. I had a clear view of Waikiki, from Diamond Head to the ocean. I enjoyed looking out at the city and ocean view, feeling like I was in an oasis in the sky. In the bedroom, I also liked the very plush, comfortable bed and the blue-patterned art on the wall behind it.

The hotel has a 1,400-square-foot fitness center, and it is equipped with more than 30 machines, including Peloton and Technogym equipment. The pool has been modernized with cabanas, daybeds and lounge chairs. At the bottom of the pool is a fun Instagrammable mural with the phrase "Come Be Here."

I enjoyed my stay, and I appreciated all the updates. With its locations, updated rooms and amenities, I can easily see it becoming a favorite among visitors.
