The Moana Surfrider will wrap up a summer session of culinary pairings events with a sake-themed evening in August followed by Oktoberfest.
On Aug. 16 the "Pairings" series will match the cuisine of chef Colin Sato from the Beachhouse at the Moana with an array of sakes selected by Level 2 advanced sake specialist Dan Fullick. Dishes include truffled Dungeness crab congee and smoked duck and foie gras.
"Sake is the ultimate beverage for food pairing because it lifts the nuance of each flavor in complex dishes," Fullick said in a statement. "The senses are delighted as even the subtlest of flavors or textures are given new heights with the addition of Japan's signature beverage."
The cost of Sake Pairings at the Beachhouse at the Moana is $120 per person. Seating is limited and reservations are required.
Moana's Pairings program couples a winemaker, brew master or master distiller with the cuisine of Sato, who advanced to the finals of Marriott International's Masters of the Craft Culinary Competition in 2018. The final Pairings dinner, Oktoberfest, is scheduled for Oct. 4.
