The Hawaii State Art Museum reopened July 13 after a more than three-month closure during the coronavirus pandemic.

Admission is free at the museum, which reopened with a new exhibit, Mai hoohuli i ka lima i luna, bringing together works of art across the mediums including painting, drawing and printmaking, weavings and drapings, carvings and sculptures, and ceramics. Artworks in the collection are primarily contemporary works by artists with a connection to Hawaii. The facility also includes a sculpture garden.

The museum is following social distancing measures including requiring face masks and has installed plexiglass guards at the front information desks in addition to other new health and safety procedures.

There are also plans for the museum to host a rotating selection of small business pop-ups and art exhibitions as it finds new ways to support the community during the pandemic. The museum cafe, Artizen by MW, is expected to reopen at a later date.

The Hawaii State Art Museum is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
