Lahaina's annual Chinese New Year celebration is set for Feb. 23.

The free celebration in the seaside Maui town includes Chinese lion dancing down Front Street accompanied by drums, cymbals and fire crackers. Throughout the day and evening there will be various cultural programs, martial arts demonstrations, Chinese tea and food for sale, and activities such as calligraphy and children's crafts projects.

The lion dancers will start at the Wo Hing Museum and Cookhouse on Front Street, before heading down the road, and the Cookhouse will also host presentations about Chinese New Year, history and fortune telling.

The event is sponsored by the Lahaina Restoration Foundation and more information can be found at http://lahainarestoration.org.
