Marriott Vacation Club has announced plans to open its first timeshare property on Hawaii Island next year.

The 112-unit resort will be called the Marriott Waikoloa Ocean Club and feature one- and two-bedroom suites.

Located on the Big Island's west coast, near Anaehoomalu Bay and next to the Waikaloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, the new timeshare facility has begun accepting reservations for arrivals beginning May 5, according to officials.

"The Big Island has been the only Hawaiian island missing from our resort portfolio and, with the addition of Marriott's Waikoloa Ocean Club, we are excited that our owners and guests will get to experience its diverse landscape and rich culture," Stephen Weisz, the president and CEO for Marriott Vacations Worldwide, said in a statement.

Owners and guests staying at the new timeshare property will have access to the Waikaloa Beach Marriott hotel's swimming pools, fitness center, restaurants and two golf courses.

Marriott officials noted in a statement, however, that "this affiliation and occupancy is subject to Marriott Vacation Club completing its purchase of Marriott's Waikoloa Ocean Club, which is anticipated to be completed in the spring 2017."

Marriott Vacation Club operates 55 resorts with more than 12,000 timeshare units across the U.S., Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
