Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa has added two new food and beverage events to its regular programming for guests.

"The Culture and Culinary Series" is a one-hour cooking demonstration and storytelling session focused on Hawaiian culture, local ingredients and drinks. Jack Stone, the resort's cultural adviser, and Chris Lederer, executive sous chef, helm the series and partner to give guests an in-depth look at Hawaiian dishes and beverages through a historical lens. Lederer will also show guests how to prepare a certain dish, and give tips on using the featured ingredient. The program also features tastings of Maui Brewing Co. beers.

"The Distiller Series" comes from the mind of Mark Nigbur, master distiller at Haliimaile Distilling Co. Participants will learn about the process for making vodka, gin and whiskey, while a guest mixologist demonstrates cocktails highlighting the featured spirits. The program also includes appetizers to pair with the cocktails.

"We've seen an increased desire among travelers to learn about the history, culture and cuisine of the Hawaiian Islands," Tetsuji Yamazaki, general manager of Sheraton Maui said in a release. "These new culinary offerings give guests a unique opportunity to explore island flavors and talk story with our cultural adviser, chef and local mixologists about island ingredients and their importance in Hawaiian culture."

Both of the events are complimentary to hotel guests and will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with the culinary program on Tuesdays and distiller program on Thursdays.

The Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa is on Maui's Kaanapali Beach, and offers 508 rooms and suites.
