The Vive Hotel Waikiki has launched a special art collaboration with Pow! Wow! Hawaii featuring the work of a trio of notable artists.
The collection, titled "Flowers, Surf, & Aloha: A Story Told in 15 Floors," includes 15 original hand-painted works of art celebrating various Hawaiian themes, one for each of the property's floors.
The project started with the three artists, Kamea Hadar, Luke DeKneef and Jeff Gress, individually creating 14 original canvases showcasing the island's flora, Waikiki surf breaks and the concept of aloha. The 15th piece was a collaboration between all three artists.
The 15 canvas paintings were then hung on each floor of the hotel before all three artists painted the walls of the floors together, incorporating the painted wall art onto each canvas piece. Only the original artist worked on their own canvas piece, and all of the artists are Hawaii-based.
The annual Pow! Wow! Hawaii festival occurs each February in Honolulu's Kakaako neighborhood, bringing a roster of muralists who produce public art.
