Volcanoes Safaris has announced a new specialist chimpanzee safari combining two distinctive wildlife ecosystems in Uganda: Kibale Forest and Kyambura Gorge.
The eight-day safari itinerary features three nights each at the newly opened Kibale Lodge and the Kyambura Gorge Lodge, focusing on chimpanzee encounters in two of Africa's most significant habitats.
Kyambura Gorge is described as a "magical sunken rainforest" home to an isolated community of 33 chimpanzees led by an alpha male named Mweya. Kibale Forest hosts over 1,500 chimpanzees and is recognized as one of Africa's premier locations for chimpanzee viewing.
Activities include chimpanzee habituation experiences in Kibale Forest, bird-watching in the Kyambura wetlands and participation in the Kyambura Lion Monitoring Project's annual survey. Guests will also enjoy fireside chats with primatologists from the Kibale Chimpanzee Project, visit schools participating in the Roots and Shoots program aimed at building conservation leaders and learn about the company's partnership with the Rwenzori Sculpture Foundation supporting Ugandan artists.
The program includes participation in conservation and community projects operated by the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust. Guests will have opportunities for interactions with experts from partner organizations, including the Jane Goodall Institute.
Volcanoes Safaris, which pioneered Great Ape ecotourism in Uganda and Rwanda, offers the all-inclusive safari from $8,890 per person. A promotional offer running through May 31 includes a complimentary chimpanzee permit at Kibale and a free night at Kyambura Gorge Lodge, benefits valued at up to $1,570.
