Liftoff has debuted at Area15 in Las Vegas, gently taking guests 130 feet above the city, where they can enjoy a panoramic view of the nearby Strip while they sip a beverage of their choice.
The new attraction isn't one you'd describe as a thrill ride. Liftoff was manufactured by Aerophile, which specializes in balloon flight, so guests can expect something akin to a hot-air balloon ride. Its 16-seat gondola rises slowly to the summit about 10 stories above Las Vegas. Once at the top, the gondola does a couple of leisurely rotations, offering guests a variety of city views, before it begins its gentle descent. Some special effects -- lighting, sound and theatrical fog -- add to the experience. The whole journey takes about seven minutes.
The Liftoff experience begins at an open-air, full-service bar at the base of the triple-helix tower that transports the gondola to the summit. Riders can choose from beer, wine, cocktails and alcohol-free options to take aboard the ride.
The family-friendly ride starts at $12 for children (12 and under) at least 42 inches tall and $18 for those older. Packages that include beverages begin at $26. While no one under 21 years of age is permitted inside Area15 after 10 p.m., all ages are welcome at Liftoff during operating hours from noon to midnight.
Walk-ups are accepted, but guests can also purchase tickets in advance.
