Husky Homestead, which operates near Denali National Park and Preserve, has added two new dog-sledding tours to its winter schedule.
A seasonal day tour will share the ins-and-outs of dog mushing, introducing guests to dog-care basics and the fundamentals of racing. Tour participants also meet sled dogs and discuss life on the Iditarod trail. The day tour will begin in January (or earlier, if snow permits) and continues through March 2020.
Husky Homestead will also offer a seven-night Iditarod experience in 2020, bundling accommodations, meals and transportation with tickets to all Iditarod events. In addition to attending the pre-race Mushers Banquet, guests will take part in the race's ceremonial start in Anchorage, the official restart in Willow and other festivities.
Husky Homestead is home to four-time Iditarod champion Jeff King, a racer who has logged more than 150,000 dogsled miles over the past 35 years. King has twice received the Leonhard Seppala Humanitarian Award, which recognizes exemplary dog team care, and he was inducted into the Iditarod Hall of Fame in 1999.
