A little exercise, a touch of history, fresh air and sure-fire memories await on the railroads in Boulder City, just 20 minutes south of Las Vegas. Rail Explorers features two- or four-seat, pedal-powered rail bikes on guided excursions along the same tracks used during construction of the Hoover Dam.
A trio of four-mile, downhill options are available: The daytime Southwest Ramble, the dramatic Sunset Tour and the Evening Lantern Ride, lit in part by the moon and stars. All rides start at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City and continue north to Railroad Pass. Each tour also includes a ride back to the top of the hill in one of the museum's historical trains, along with free museum entry.
Guides lead every Rail Explorers tour and offer historical insights during the 90-minute adventure. Custom-built Rail Explorer rail bikes have four steel wheels, hydraulic disc brakes and pedals for each seat. Guests of all ages and abilities are invited.
"Rail Explorers offers a team-building experience and is completely hassle-free for private groups," said Leslie Roszyk-Stephenson, Las Vegas division manager for Rail Explorers. "Our friendly, professional staff ensures every detail is perfect and that each tour is memorable."
Tandem Rail Explorer (up to two riders) or Quad Rail Explorer rail bikes (up to four riders) are available on each tour offered. Tandem Explorer tours are $85, and Quad Explorers are $150; a single rider is $45. Groups of 10 or more people receive a 10% discount on weekday tours. Group bookings of up to 34 riders can be accommodated.
