Thirty-two miles of satin ribbons hang from the ceiling of the Venetian's waterfall atrium. Suspended in the air, the 3,500 individual strands dangle vertically, invoking the kind of skyscape that makes you stop and gape momentarily at its unimpeachable beauty.
The installation, a new piece by artist Anne Patterson presented in partnership with Culture Corps called "Another Sky," was unveiled last week inside the resort's waterfall atrium. The open, airy space with 55-foot-high ceilings has long hosted seasonal displays and rotating artwork, including Laura Kimpton's 36-foot "Love" sculpture, which was installed last year.
Patterson's first major installation was "Graced with Light — the Ribbon Project," which suspended blue and red ribbons from the ceiling of San Francisco's Grace Cathedral for an ethereal, almost surreal effect. Using vibrant ribbons in a range of 15 shades, Patterson's current work at the Venetian will be on public display at the resort for the foreseeable future.
