American Airlines will partner with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey on a $125 million redevelopment of the Terminal 8 concessions area in JFK Airport.

The redesign and expansion includes a new great hall that is expected to house more than 60 restaurants and retailers.

Neither American nor the port authority provided a timeline for the project, but the port authority will host an educational session for potential contractors on July 27 and potential concessionaries on Aug. 1.

The project follows the completion last November of a $400 million renovation and expansion of JFK Terminal 8 that included a new check-in areas, five new widebody gates and an upgraded baggage-handling system. That expansion allowed American to co-locate in Terminal 8 with partners British Airways, Iberia and Japan Airlines.
