Delta will launch service to Malta and Sardinia next spring. The flights, both from New York JFK, will be the first connecting the U.S. with either Mediterranean island.

Flights to Sardinia, an Italian island, will operate four times weekly beginning May 20. JFK-Malta flights will begin June 7 and operate three times a week.

Both routes are seasonal and end Oct. 23, 2026. They'll be operated with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft equipped with business, premium economy and economy cabins.

Delta in August asked SkyMiles members and employees to vote for a destination to be added by the airline and gave three choices: Sardinia, Malta and the Spanish Mediterranean island of Ibiza. Instead of one winner, Delta settled on two.

Customers, the airline said, preferred Sardinia, while employees voted for Malta.
