The first seven gates of the new Terminal B Western Concourse at LaGuardia will open Wednesday. American Airlines will occupy the gates.
The remaining 10 gates of the 17-gate, 218,000-square-foot concourse are slated for an opening by early 2022, said LaGuardia Gateway Partners, which is building the $5.1 billion Terminal B under contract with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Some projects can accelerate with traffic down, while others are under reconsideration due to dwindling revenue.
The Western Concourse opening follows the opening in June of the 850,000-square-foot LaGuardia Terminal B arrivals and departures hall.
Construction on Terminal B has been ongoing since summer 2016. The 18-gate Eastern Concourse opened in December 2018. Remaining components of the project include demolishing the old terminal and completing a central hall, which will connect Terminal B to a new LaGuardia Terminal C.
Delta is currently undertaking a $4 billion rebuild and consolidation of the airport's terminals C and D. The first of what will be four concourses in the consolidated Delta Terminal C opened last November.
