Philippine Airlines will make Seattle its sixth U.S. gateway, launching service to Manila on Oct. 2.

The carrier will use a Boeing 777-300ER configured with business and economy cabins. It will be the only airline flying between Seattle and the Philippines.

Port of Seattle commissioner Toshiko Hasegawa said that Manila has been one of the most sought-after unserved routes by Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Washington state has the fourth-largest Filipino population in the U.S., he added. Combined, Washington and Oregon have approximately 240,000 Filipino Americans.

Philippine Airlines' current U.S. destinations are Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Honolulu and Guam. The carrier launched a codeshare partnership with American in December.

Philippine is selling introductory fares on the Seattle route through April 30.
