JetBlue and Alaska Airlines have made offers to buy Virgin America, Bloomberg reported Monday, citing anonymous sources.
Discussions over the potential acquisitions are ongoing and a deal could be announced as soon as next week, the financial news service said.
This latest news comes less than a week after Bloomberg reported that Virgin America is for sale, also citing anonymous sources.
JetBlue spokesman Doug McGraw declined to comment Monday, saying that the carrier doesn’t comment on market rumors or speculation. Alaska didn’t immediately respond to a Travel Weekly email, but did decline to comment to Bloomberg.
Virgin America has also chosen not to respond to the reports.
Virgin America went public in 2014. The carrier currently flies to 25 destinations in the U.S. and Mexico. Its principal base of operations is San Francisco International Airport, and the airline also has a significant presence in Los Angeles.
