Singapore Airlines' new first-class cabin on the Airbus A380 will enter service in December on the first of five new A380 aircraft entering the fleet. Retrofit work will also take place on 14 existing aircraft.

The new first class on the aircraft's upper deck will have six suites, each with a sliding door. Each suite is furnished with a separate full-flat bed with adjustable recline and a plush leather chair.

First-class suites measure 50 square feet and come with their own recliners and single beds.

The leather seats are upholstered by Poltrona Frau and are adjustable using an electronic control side panel.

For couples traveling together, the beds in the first two suites of each aisle can be converted to form a double bed. When not in use, the bed can be stowed completely, creating even more personal space within each suite.

Each suite also has a 32-inch full HD monitor that can swivel for the different viewing angles in seat and bed modes, a full-sized personal wardrobe, a handbag stowage compartment, amenity box lined with soft leather and a wall with mood lighting.

Also on the A380 upper deck are 78 seats in business class, also upholstered by Poltrona Frau. Seats in the new business class cabin are arranged in a forward-facing, four-abreast (1-2-1) configuration that offers all customers direct access to the aisle.

Two luxurious lavatories will be reserved for the six first-class suites.

A larger back shell on every seat creates a cocoon-like feel for more privacy. The center divider can be fully lowered to form double beds, making the two center seats ideal for customers traveling together.

The research, design, development and installation of new products on 19 Singapore Airlines A380s represents an investment of about $850 million.
