United wants to launch Washington-Cape Town service

United Airlines is seeking regulatory approval to launch service between Washington Dulles and Cape Town.

If the route is approved by the DOT, the carrier plans to begin weekly flights between those cities on Nov. 17.

Related: United and Delta maintain South Africa flight schedules 

United said it would be the first airline to fly nonstop from D.C. to Cape Town. The flights would accompany existing United South African service from Newark to Cape Town and Johannesburg. 

United intends to fly the route with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
