On the heels of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Airbnb has opted to suspend all operations in Russia and Belarus.
Brian Chesky, Airbnb's cofounder and CEO, announced the move on Twitter.
In an emailed statement, Airbnb confirmed that the company has blocked calendars from accepting new bookings in both countries. It also has restricted users in Belarus and Russia from being able to make new reservations as guests.
According to vacation rental research firm AirDNA, Russia is currently home to more than 93,000 active short-term rental listings, while Belarus has just over 3,700.
Concurrently, Airbnb has thrown its weight behind humanitarian efforts, detailing plans to work with hosts to provide free, short-term housing for up to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees.
