1 Hotels opened a property in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Thursday, marking the third hotel under the ecoluxury brand hatched by former Starwood Hotels chief and W Hotels founder Barry Sternlicht.
1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, the brand's first newbuild property, is located in Brooklyn Bridge Park and offers guests panoramic views extending from the Statue of Liberty to the Manhattan skyline.
The 194-room hotel includes 29 suites ranging from two to six bedrooms and will add a 4,000-square-foot rooftop bar and pool in May. The hotel's environmental and wellness emphasis is marked by a 25-foot-high green wall with creeping vines at the hotel's entrance as well as guestrooms that feature hemp mattresses wrapped in 100% organic-cotton sheets.
The hotel, with interiors designed by INC Architecture & Design, was built in part by reusing pine beams from the former Domino Sugar Factory, while the property's pine flooring is from Kentucky's Old Crow Distillery. Additionally, the property receives 100% of its power from wind energy and offers guests shuttle service in Tesla electric vehicles.
1 Hotels, which is headed by Sternlicht's Starwood Capital (no relation to Starwood Hotels), already has properties in Miami and Manhattan. The small chain recently announced plans to open hotels in both Sanya, China, next year, and is slated to add properties in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and California's Silicon Valley in 2019.
