Hilton is investing $50 million to convert hotels in sub-Saharan Africa to its Hilton, DoubleTree and Curio brands.

The company aims to convert 100 hotels in the next five years.

As of June 30, the company had 81 hotels in the Middle East & Africa, including 52 Hiltons and 13 DoubleTrees.

Rival Marriott International grew by acquisition in Africa when it bought Protea Hotels in 2014. The acquisition boosted Marriott's Africa presence to more than 100 hotels, making it the continent's largest hotel company.
