Karisma Hotels & Resorts early next year will break
ground on an $800 million project in Jamaica that may include as many as 10
hotels totaling 6,900 rooms within the next decade.
The project, dubbed Sugarcane, will located in the St. Ann
region on Jamaica’s north coast, according to a Karisma spokesperson. Karisma
operates one hotel on the island, and will open a second property there next
year.
The company didn’t provide any details on the project’s
financial backers or further information on the hotels. The project will be
built on about 200 acres, and will add as many as 1,800 rooms by 2019,
according to the Jamaica Observer.
Jamaica has about 24,000 hotel rooms, or about 10% of the
Caribbean’s total, according to STR.
