Thailand's second Ritz-Carlton has opened on the island of
Koh Samui and offers locally-inspired activities such as kickboxing and cooking
classes in Southern Thai cuisine.
The 175-suite Ritz-Carlton Koh Samui sits on 58 acres on the
Gulf of Thailand that was a former coconut plantation. The hotel has 41,000-square-foot
spa with eight treatment rooms.
The property's seven restaurants and bars include a Southern
Thai restaurant overlooking a swim reef with 50 fish species. On some days, the
hotel will offer what it calls Baan Talat, which is an "outdoor food
market experience with street food stalls, dancing and crafts."
The hotel offers
lessons in the martial art of Muay Thai at the property's indoor kickboxing
ring, while other activities include a visit to a local food market followed by
a Southern Thai cooking class.
The hotel joins Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, as the
brand's Thailand hotels.
