Lynch had headed Vail Resorts, North America's largest ski resort operator, since 2021, when she succeeded Katz.
Katz began his first tenure as CEO in 2006. He has since served as the company's executive chairman.
Lynch's departure comes after a ski season that was at times challenging for Vail Resorts. The company endured an onslaught of negative publicity during a ski patrollers strike at Park City Mountain in Utah.
Shortly after Vail largely conceded to union demands, institutional investor Late Apex Partners, a Vail shareholder, made a public call for Lynch's removal, saying the company is viewed as an "evil empire" by the core skiing community.
"My most important goal in returning as CEO is ensuring we align with all our stakeholders to deliver an experience of a lifetime for our employees and guests while driving financial success for our company," Katz wrote in a May 27 letter to company staff.
Bruce Sewell, lead independent director of Vail Resorts' board, said, "As Vail Resorts continues to execute its strategic priorities and transformational initiatives, the board believes now is the right time for this leadership transition."
