The Lowell, a classic New York City luxury hotel that’s about to turn 100 in 2027, has redone a collection of its suites and guestrooms.

The project was executed under the creative direction of co-owner, Dina De Luca Chartouni and American interior designer Michael S. Smith.

The thing about The Lowell is that it feels like a very old New York residence, and that’s old in a good way. The hotel has large windows that draw in natural light from East 63rd Street. There’s a refined New York below; townhouses line the block that’s flanked by Madison and Park avenues. Shopping is to die for with Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale’s close by, as well as flagship stores for Hermes, Chanel, and Celine. Central Park, the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim are also nearby.

Nice Touch: Each suite has a wood-burning fireplace and on either side is built-in bookshelf filled books and parlor games, to provide that residential vibe. Other chic, homey touches include down-filled double sofas and Louis XV-style writing desks. We love the thought of the mahogany double doors that connect the living and sleeping quarters.

Bedrooms have canopy beds and custom-designed dressing areas. We hear that select suites can be configured as two-, three-, or four-bedroom residences, great for multi-gen groups and/or long-term stays.

Kitchens are fully equipped, and the five-fixture marble bathrooms feature walk-in showers and deep soaking tubs.

Technology, discreet but useful, includes built-in speaker systems, mirror televisions, and motorized blackout shades. Artwork at The Lowell was curated by Chartouni and her design team through international auction houses and galleries. Photography, paintings, and prints from different periods add a sense of lived-in sophistication to the suites.
