Scotch lovers rejoice. SCOTCH Whisky Bar at The Balmoral in Edinburgh, Scotland has created “The 1945 Glen Grant Experience” for £60,000 which includes both the acquisition of a bespoke 1945 Glen Grant Scotch whisky from Gordon & MacPhail, and a curated Scotch-lover’s experience to go with it. The 1945 Glen Grant is an ultra-rare, post-war vintage Speyside single malt Scotch.
The Balmoral is a grand dame railway hotel located at one of Edinburgh’s most chic addresses, No. 1 Princes Street. It’s managed by Rocco Forte Hotels (a collection of 15 individual luxury hotels, resorts, residences and villas) and also the hotel where J.K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (yes, they’ve named a suite after her).
Back to that Scotch experience: It was created by The Balmoral’s SCOTCH Whisky Bar, which, by the way, has available 500 bottles from distilleries across Scotland’s Highlands, Lowlands, Islay, Islands, and Speyside.
The offering provides the rare opportunity to secure the one-of-one 1945 Glen Grant, distilled at the close of wartime Britain, making it one of the oldest and rarest Scotch whiskies in existence, while enjoying a major jaunt around the region to enjoy all things Scotch (and Scotland).
First Up: A behind-the-scenes visit to Gordon & MacPhail s headquarters for a private tour and tasting, followed by an exclusive-use overnight stay at Rothes Glen House, which comes complete with private dining and chauffeured travel through Speyside. Rothes Glen is an exclusive-use castle that can hold up to 28 guests. We say it’s got all the right Highland vibes, with a majorly large kitchen and natural fireplaces and stoves in four ground floor rooms.
Moving right along, the experience continues with a private visit to the Johnstons of Elgin mill, and then it’s time to head back to Edinburgh for two nights in The Balmoral s Scone and Crombie Suite. At 2,400 square feet, it’s one of the biggest suites in Scotland and can be configured into two or three bedrooms. It’s also got a storied past: Hollywood stars such as Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor have stayed here.
At The Balmoral, the “The 1945 Glen Grant Experience” also included a meal at the hotel’s Number One restaurant, a personal wine tasting hosted by the Head Sommelier in the Number One wine cellar, and a whisky tasting led by SCOTCH s Whisky Ambassadors.
For a final fun moment, guests can select from the brand’s Suites & Beyond program, such as a private session with the hotel’s Poet in Residence or Scent Butler, or they can take a bagpipe lesson. Sweet!
