Tropical Storm Elsa made landfall in Cuba on July 5 after leaving at least three people dead in the Dominican Republic and St. Lucia, according to reports.
Elsa, which formed early on July 1, strengthened into the first hurricane of the season on July 2 when it passed over Barbados, causing widespread damage and road closure, according a Tweet posted by Barbados prime minister Mia Mottley on July 2.
Elsa's track brought the hurricane over the Dominican Republic and Haiti before making landfall on Cuba's south coast as a tropical storm.
The latest forecast has Key West and the west coast of Florida in Elsa's track by early Tuesday, July 6.
Elsa is the earliest "E" storm in the satellite reporting era dating back to 1966, according to meteorologist Denver Ingram, National Park Service weather station coordinator for the Southeast.
