After an islandwide power outage on April 16 in Puerto Rico, almost all businesses and residences had electricity restored by the morning of Friday, April 18.

The power outage, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, was estimated to take up to 48 hours to fully resolve. As of Friday morning, nearly 99% of customers had power, according to power company LUMA Energy.

The company was investigating the cause of the grid failure. Power issues have plagued the island since the Category 4 Hurricane Maria slammed into the territory in 2017.

While LUMA had been working to restore electricity, many San Juan businesses were operating on generators, according to destination management organization Discover Puerto Rico.
