Alaska Airlines launched new service between San Francisco and Hawaii Island on Dec. 14.

The daily flights between San Francisco International Airport and Kailua-Kona International Airport mark the 31st new route out of California launched by the airline this year.

"Bay Area guests now have the option to fly from any of the region's major airports to the Island of Hawaii," Annabel Chang, Alaska Airlines' vice president of the Bay Area, said in a
statement.

The new route will be operated on A320 aircraft from Virgin America, which Alaska Airlines acquired earlier this year.

Alaska Airlines, along with Virgin America and regional partners, flies to more than 115 destinations and averages 1,200 daily flights.
